Is It Better To Re-Gas My Gas Strut Or Buy A New Strut?
Whether to re-gas or replace depends largely on the condition of your gas strut and its expected future performance.
When Re-Gassing Is Recommended
Re-gassing is usually a cost-effective option if the strut is in good physical condition but has simply lost pressure.
When Buying a New Strut Is Recommended
If the gas strut shows signs of physical damage like bent rods, leaking fluid, or worn seals, or if it’s a lower quality strut prone to frequent failures, buying a new strut is generally a better choice for long-term reliability.
How Long Do Gas Struts Typically Last?
The lifespan of a gas strut can vary depending on several factors, including quality, usage, and maintenance.
Typical Lifespan of Gas Struts
The lifespan of a gas strut varies depending on its usage, quality, and maintenance. On average, gas struts can last anywhere between 3 to 5 years under normal conditions. Due to their high quality manufacture, gas struts purchased from Struts Australia have been known to last up to 10 years.
Factors Affecting Longevity
Factors like the frequency of use, the quality of the gas strut, and exposure to harsh conditions can impact their longevity. Automotive gas struts that experience frequent use or marine gas struts exposed to corrosive saltwater environments may need attention sooner.
Maintaining Optimal Performance
Regular inspections can help identify when a strut is beginning to fail, allowing for timely re-gassing or replacement to maintain optimal performance.
The Difference Buying Quality Gas Struts
Investing in high-quality gas struts can make a significant difference in performance, reliability, and overall lifespan.
